The accuracy of the data provided by client to private investigator

The Importance of Data Accuracy in Private Investigation

What is accurate data? It is simply correct and consistent information provided by the client for the private investigation to be performed properly. Now, let’s dig deeper into the importance of data accuracy. Unfortunately, data is rarely useful in its raw state. Investigators process and work with client-provided data in a way that works for specific cases in question.

Each private investigation case Wolf Group detectives work with is based on an individual approach. Every little detail counts when it comes to a successful outcome. Our private investigation experts are always taking their time when it comes to collecting data from the client. Accurately provided data can dramatically enhance the result of any private investigation.

Different Investigation Cases – One Important Rule

It is very common for clients to contact our investigative agency with a request for a background check, for example. Some clients need it to make sure their future employer is acting according to the law. Someone needs to find out more about a new business partner. Others need a background check to learn more information about their daughter’s boyfriend. Every case is unique, and every client is different, but one thing is certain: it is absolutely necessary to provide the most accurate data possible to ensure the successful outcome of any investigation.

Of course, it is much easier if all the necessary data is known by the client. Let’s take a look at a simple example. One client was looking for the address of a girl named Roxanne Smith (the name was changed due to privacy). Our data analysis specialist checked the information and reported that there was no data on the requested person. Our investigation advisor talked to the client once more and found out that the girl in question is apparently Romanian. Investigators were very excited to get this information. Our data specialists suggested checking the name Roxana instead of Roxanne and they locked out. The client received the address in no time. It is important to remember that computer databases are not able to problem-solve as humans can.

Inaccuracies in provided data can stem from anything. It can be an incorrectly provided name of a POI, an outdated phone number, or an old place of work. More often than not, it is simply a language barrier that makes the data to be unreliable.

One Root and Dozens of Variations

One of Wolf Group’s clients was looking for a person named Jamie. Precise information was missing. Jamie ended up being James. People use short names for easier communication. Plus, our country is full of people of different nationalities. Names change depending on the circumstances. Italian Benvenuto becomes Benoit. Russian Mihail is now Mike. Gina becomes Angela. Elena, Lena, Helena, Helen, Helene. These are all different names based on the same root. Alexandre, Alexandr, Aleksander, Sander, Alex, Aleks, etc.

There is such a variety of uses of the same name. The Western European name Serge in the former Soviet republics was written differently. For example, in Moldova – Sergiu, in Ukraine – Sergii, in Russia – Sergey. But since the passports in the USSR were issued by the same department, the Russian way of writing names was used in the birth certificates. And in the national passports after the collapse of the USSR, it is written differently once again. Let’s add Italian Sergio into this mix… It gets really complicated.

Basic localization techniques and pre-investigation are the foundation of all private investigations. For example, it is hard to conduct a surveillance operation without knowing the correct name of the individual in question. With all of this in mind, the accuracy of data provided by the client is always our priority so our detectives can perform the investigation according to our high standards.

The Success of the Investigation Depends on the Accuracy of the Information

Please be attentive when you contact our investigative agency and try your best to provide the most accurate data possible. Take your time, and collect your thoughts. Our talented specialists will help you equip our investigators with the needed data using correct questions and prompts. Please listen and reply carefully, so that the outcome of the investigation is to the highest standard.

When it comes to the database checks, please forget the hacker-analyst, some sort of James Bond assistant. Or some kind of action heroes that have AI-powered tanks. Investigations do not work this way. The real-world investigation is not a movie: “hey, so I’ll go to a policeman I know, he’ll do a quick search for me.” No, he won’t. Because in case something happens to the person in question, the policeman will be the culprit.

The Mandate and the Legal Right to Investigate

A private investigator, on the contrary, acts under a mandate. This is an achievement of democracy. Any citizen has the right to hire an investigator and get information of interest. The investigator in this case is more protected by the law than a policeman. Because he acts under a mandate received from a citizen. Wolf Group investigators use a great variety of techniques, sources, and tools to yield the best possible result. Our professionally trained investigators always act within the law. They access and analyze a substantial amount of information to make sure that the client receives the answer they seek. Our detectives crosscheck the information based on the data provided. They compare it to the known facts. And ultimately, they analyze it to create a full picture.

A Tiny Detail That Changes Investigation Tactics

Let’s take a look at another case. A lady signed a mandate so our investigators can perform surveillance of her husband. What they knew: the couple does not live together. The husband lives in a rented apartment with his mother. He doesn’t have a car. The client requested Wolf Group investigators to operate on a small budget. Our investigators learned that due to the circumstances (the fact that the POI lived with his mother), it was simply impossible for him to bring a woman into the apartment. The client provided this important information on the third day of the investigation.

Although PIs coordinated all of the actions with the client, such an important detail was not communicated in a timely fashion. The best possible scenario in this particular case was a waiting game. This may sound ridiculous but, in these circumstances, you sometimes just have to wait and be patient. Remember, private investigation is not an easy math problem to solve. The situation is always changing, even though it seems stagnant at times, and investigators need to adjust accordingly.

Data Accuracy: The Conclusion

Providing incorrect data or forgetting to add certain minor details can seem trivial and innocent, however, the impact on the quality of the investigation is huge. When investigators are working with inaccurate and out-of-date data, it might take them longer to uncover important information needed to complete the investigation successfully. If you provide all the known and accurate data to our specialists and investigators in a timely manner, we will be able to help you to uncover the truth in no time.
